Vol. 32, No. 4 IT SHALL BE SEEN

Vol. 32, No. 4  April, 2008

By Pastor George Mills
“And Abraham called the name of that place, Jehovahjireh; as it is said to this day, In the Mount of the Lord IT SHALL BE SEEN.” (Gen 22:14).
“Your father Abraham rejoiced to see My day, AND HE SAW IT, and was glad.” (Jn 8:56).

Our text for this message is Genesis 22:1-14. Abraham is learning lessons in his old age. We never graduate from God’s school of learning. Today, let us learn from the life of Abraham some lessons that reach far beyond human ability. The Name Jehovahjireh means “God will provide.”  Let’s see some things that “GOD WILL PROVIDE.”

1. GOD WILL PROVIDE A SAVIOUR THROUGH A MIRACLE BIRTH. “IT SHALL BE SEEN.”  “And in thee shall all the families of the earth be blessed.” (Gen. 12:3, 18:9-18). God had promised Abraham a son…but time is passing by, and he is not getting any younger. In Genesis 16:1-4, Abraham follows the advice of Sarai, his wife, and fathers a child by the handmaid, Hagar. The
nation has had to pay a great price

because of this adulterous relationship. In Gen. 21:1-13, God fulfilled His promise to Abraham. Isaac was born. God gave a son through a MIRACLE BIRTH. Beyond the realm of human ability. Abraham was 100 years old at the birth of Isaac. “And it ceased to be with Sarah after the manner of women.” And Sarah was 90 years old. A MIRACLE BIRTH. This is beyond human ability. Only God could perform this great act. This MIRACLE BIRTH pointed to the Virgin Birth of Jesus Christ. As it is not possible for children to be born beyond the realm of normal age of child bearing years, So it is not possible for a virgin to conceive, and bear a son. BUT SHE DID! (Mt 1:18-25) Jesus said, “Your father Abraham rejoiced to see My day, and HE SAW IT and was glad.” In the birth of Isaac, we see a picture, a foreshadow of the Virgin Birth of Jesus. Isaac was not born of a virgin, but his birth was a miracle. It was a small picture of the MIRACLE Birth, the VIRGIN Birth of Christ.

ALONE. “IT SHALL BE SEEN.” Jehovahjireh, My Provider. “And he
(Abraham) believed in the LORD and He
counted it to him for righteousness.”

(Gen 15:6) (Ro 4:1-3)(Gal 3:1-6)(Ja. 2:23) Now, some of you may disagree with me here, BUT CHECK YOUR BIBLE. What does the Bible say? Abraham’s journey of faith in God did not begin in Ur, of the Chaldees, or in Haran, or in Egypt, but in the land of Canaan, when he BELIEVED GOD, (Gen 15:6). After many trials and errors, mistakes, and disobedience, He finally trusted God. He was not saved through the works of the Law, for the Law was yet centuries away. He was not saved by circumcision; this did not begin until Gen 17:23-27. “A man is not justified by the works of the Law.”
And so our journey of faith begins, not with some religious profession, or some alter we may have built, or some creed we hold to, one of thousands of things men cling to. Our journey of faith begins, not when we believe IN God, but when we believe God.  “Your Father Abraham rejoiced to see My day, AND HE SAW IT, and was glad.”

3. GOD WILL PROVIDE SALVATION THROUGH SUBSTITUTION. “IT SHALL BE SEEN.”  Substitution, the innocent for the guilty. “Take now thy son, thine only son Isaac, whom thou lovest, and get thee into the land of Moriah, and OFFER HIM there for a burnt offering upon one of the mountains which I will tell thee of.” (Gen 22:2).

(A) SUBSTITUTION ORIGINATED in Eden where God clothed Adam and Eve after they sinned and incurred a sinful nature. “Unto Adam also and to his wife did The Lord God make coats of skins and clothed them.” (Gen 3:21). INNOCENT animals died and their skins provided clothing for the GUILTY.

(B) SUBSTITUTION WAS ILLUSTRATED in the offering of Isaac. The submissive son, laid on the alter, bound and ready for the knife, to be raised from that condition by God Himself illustrates very clearly how that our Lord Jesus freely gave Himself to the death of the Cross to be raised by God.

(C) SUBSTITUTION WAS DEMONSTRATED in the ordinances of God. The Day of Atonement is but one example of the Law. An innocent animal was brought to the priests to be slain, it’s blood sprinkled on the Mercy Seat, and body to be burned on the alter.

(D) SUBSTITUTION WAS CONSUMMATED IN THE OFFERING OF CHRIST. “Complete in every detail.” Every sacrifice, every innocent animal, the shed blood all pointed to this one Glorious event when the Lamb of God took upon Himself the sin of all the world and died on the Cross in full payment for our sin. HALLELUIA!
“Your father Abraham rejoiced to see My day, AND HE SAW IT, and was glad.” Take a few moments and read Isaiah 53: 1-10.

4. GOD WILL PROVIDE TRIUMPH IN THE TIME OF TESTING. “IT SHALL BE SEEN.”  The word “tempt” in v1, refers to testing, trying.  God does not tempt men with sin. From time to time God tests, or tries our faith, not for His benefit, for He knows all about us. Testing is for our benefit. He tests us to temper us.  I can only imagine the things going through Abraham’s heart at that time…
“What will the heathen about me say? They would not do such a thing.”
“What will I tell Sarah?”
“Didn’t God promise me a son, and that through this son, my seed shall be as the stars of Heaven, and as the sand which is upon the sea shore?” Surely these things and more were piercing the heart of Abraham as he faced this test. But God saw the faith of Abraham and provided the substitute Ram caught in the thicket. Father and son left that mountain, arm in arm, rejoicing. “Your Father Abraham rejoiced to see My day AND HE SAW IT, and was glad.”

5. GOD WILL PROVIDE AN ESCAPE TO ENCOURAGE US. “IT SHALL BE SEEN.”  No wonder Abraham is called the “father of the faithful” He has passed his greatest test. God has fulfilled many promises to Abraham and his seed and God will fulfill every last promise. The Bible teaches us that “There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man, but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able, but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.” (1Cor 10:13). Every test we go through is for our growing. “A faith that has not been tested cannot be trusted.” “Your Father Abraham rejoiced to see my day, AND HE SAW IT, and was glad.”

Verse 4 mentions the Third Day. Of course this points to the Resurrection of Christ on the third day.  We serve a risen, living Saviour.  Thank God for the empty tomb.  “For if when we were enemies we were reconciled to God by the death of His Son, much MORE being reconciled, we shall be saved by His life.” (Ro 5:10). The Death of Christ WAS our reconciliation; the Life of Christ IS our reconciliation. Christ is now our eternal High Priest. Isaac left that mountain with his father only to bring much joy to the Life of Abraham. Christ lived to do His Father’s will. The Father spoke from Heaven, “This is my beloved Son in whom I am well pleased”
“Your Father Abraham rejoiced to see My day, AND HE SAW IT, and was glad.”

7. GOD WILL PROVIDE, NOT JUST A PERSON, BUT ALSO A PLACE.  “In the Mount of the LORD IT SHALL BE SEEN.” (v14).  Abraham was told to go to the land of Moriah, 22:2. The city of Jerusalem is built on Mount Moriah.  The Temple of Solomon was built on Mount Moriah, (2Chr 3:1) The hill called Calvary was on Mount Moriah, outside the city of Jerusalem. I strongly believe that in the very spot where Isaac was offered, Jesus Christ was crucified there almost 2000 years later. It is very clear that God had the Cross in mind.

8.  GOD WILL PROVIDE AN ETERNAL HOME FOR HIS PEOPLE. “IT SHALL BE SEEN” Abraham is the spiritual father of two seed:

(A) THE NATURAL SEED OF ABRAHAM. “I will multiply thy seed as the sand which is upon the sea shore.” The natural seed of Abraham will occupy the land of Canaan God gave to them. One day that land will “blossom as the rose” The lame man will leap as an hart, and the dumb tongue shall sing.” (Isa 35:1-10)

(B)  THE SPIRITUAL SEED OF ABRAHAM. “I will multiply thy seed as the stars of Heaven.” See Gal 3:6-16. This Heavenly Seed, the redeemed of Calvary, will occupy that wonderful City described in Revelation 21-22. This is the city that Abraham looked for in Heb. 11:10. “A city which hath foundations whose builder and maker is God.”

The greatest QUESTION of the Old Testament was asked by Isaac, “Where is the Lamb?” (Gen 22:7). Centuries later the greatest ANSWER was given by John as he pointed to Christ and said, “Behold THE LAMB of God which taketh away the sin of the world.”
On Calvary’s Cross, The Lamb of God, Provided before the foundation of the world was slain. He bore our sin in Himself. He paid every cost. He died for us. The innocent for the guilty sinner. IN THE MOUNT OF THE LORD, (Calvary) IT SHALL BE SEEN.”
              ( the WILDERNESS, 1996)

If you are not saved today, I urge you to take the truth of this message. That is; Jesus died for you, He was buried, and He arose from the dead for you. He offers His Salvation, free to anyone who will simply trust Him for it. Trust the Saviour  today. Call upon Him while He is near. He will always hear the cry of the repentant heart. You can begin TODAY, to live FOREVER! Tell Him in your own words that you receive Him as your very own Saviour. “But as many as received Him, to them gave He power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on His Name.”

THINK ABOUT IT the blood of a ram caught in a thicket only covered sin for a season. The blood of the LAMB took sin away FOREVER!

“And Abraham called the name of that place Jehovahjireh, as it is said to this day, In the Mount of the LORD, it shall be seen.
                   (Gen 22:14)

“Where is the lamb?” the lad did ask,
When he saw the wood and the fire.
My son, have no fear, for Jehovah is here,
He will give us the thing we desire.

“In the Mount of the LORD it shall be seen”
The Father’s Great Gift to man.
In submission he lay, on the alter that day,
To show us salvation’s great plan.

“In the Mount of the LORD it shall be seen,
   Salvation’s plan will be done.
On Calvary’s Cross, to bear all our loss,
God will provide us His son.

For payment for sin, my God will supply,
A Lamb from all ages past.
Free pardon for all, who upon Him will call,
Who on Him, all sin has been cast.

In the Mount of the LORD, NOW it is seen,
   High on Moriah’s great brim.
Christ crucified, our substitute died,
   Where there, they crucified Him.

“Behold the Lamb,” The Prophet cried,
As he pointed to Christ, our Lord.
Salvation is here, our Provider is near,
   Behold, the Incarnate Word.

Our God has provided Salvation, free,
Christ came, the great price He did pay,
To die in our stead, to rise from the dead,
So trust Him, and why not today?

THINK ABOUT IT…Once there was a Ram CAUGHT in a WILDERNESS. And then there was a LAMB who CAME to this WILDERNESS. Both shed their blood, the one for one, the other, One for all.

“But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an Holy nation, a peculiar people, that ye should shew forth the praises of Him that called you out of darkness into His marvelous light.”
(1Peter 2:9)
These brief thoughts from this great passage have been on my mind, so I would love to share some things with you. Spend some time in this wonderful Book of First Peter. You will enjoy.

1. A PECULIAR PEOPLE. Peter refers to us as “peculiar.” That may seem to be a rather crude description of those of us who love Christ. But the word Peculiar means, “Different from the usual.” I like that. I thank God that I am different. Christ lives in me. He made me a new creation…Let’s see some of the ways we are “peculiar…

(A) A REDEEMED PEOPLE. “Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition received from your fathers.  But with the precious blood of Christ as of a Lamb without blemish and without spot.” Ch 1:18-19) God abundantly shed His Mercy upon us. To REDEEM us means “to buy us back again.” We were on the slave market of sin, but Christ bought us back to God. Through faith in His Cross, we are redeemed. We are a PECULIAR PEOPLE.

(B) A RE-BORN PEOPLE. Jesus said to Nicodemus in John 3, “Ye MUST be born again. We were born in sin. We inherit our father Adam’s fallen nature. In Christ, we are RE-BORN, or BORN AGAIN. “Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible seed, by the Word of God which liveth and abideth forever.” (1:23). When we hear the Word, and believe the Word, and by Faith receive the Word, we are born into the family of God. This has nothing to do with any work, deed, feeling, emotional experience. Baptism, Church affiliation. By faith alone in the finished work of Christ we are born again. A PECULIAR PEOPLE.

(C) A REJOICING PEOPLE.  “Whom having not seen ye love, though now ye see Him not, yet believing, ye REJOICE with JOY unspeakable, and full of glory.” (Ch 1:8) I have never seen Christ, that is, with my physical eyes. I have sever seen Him. I will see Him one day. And though I have never seen Him, I love Him. I asked Him into my life some 48 years ago. I am not trying to be, or say something that may sound “Holier than thou” or something like that. But I have never gotten over the wonder of it all. I enjoy being a Christian. I love my work. I love the Bible (KJB) I love to learn, to study. In these last years, I have learned much. I love being a Christian. I Love Jesus. I have JOY in me. Now, I know that I say very little. I do very little talking, and may not show much joy on the outside, But I have the deep Inner Joy that only Christ can give. I hope that you have that same joy in you, and if you do, you know what I am talking about. We are A PECULIAR PEOPLE.

(D) A REWARDED PEOPLE. “In time past were not a people, but are now are the people of God.” (2:9) While our rewards are manifold down here on earth, we have some wonderful rewards in Heaven. We have an inheritance, RESERVED, “His own peculiar treasure.”

(a) “An inheritance IINCORRUPTIBLE” Rust and age cannot destroy our Heavenly inheritance. Thieves,(satanic forces), cannot steal. Think of the many ways that people are being bribed or cheated out of their inheritance.

(b)”An inheritance UNDEFILED” Sin has defiled this planet. Defilement is all of the uncleanness, the sin, the idolatry, the adultery, the abomination, the shedding of innocent blood. The list is endless. But we are going to a place of Glory and Honor, “And there shall in no wise enter into it any thing that DEFILETH…” (Rev 21:27).

(c)”An inheritance UNFADING.”  “That fadeth not away” Life is pictured as a flower that just fades away.  “The grass withereth, the flower fadeth.”  The crowns that were given to athletes in Peter’s day, so very soon, just faded away. (5:4) In Heaven our inheritance gets brighter and brighter.

(d) “An inheritance UNFAILING. “Who are KEPT by the power of God through faith unto salvation, ready to be revealed in the last time.” KEPT in the hands of the Thrice Holy God.

2. A PRECIOUS PERSON. “Unto you therefore He is PRECIOUS.” (2:7)

(A) Christ is OUR Foundation Stone  “The foundation of God standeth sure. (2Tim 2:19)  The great Apostle Peter had seen himself as a rock, strong and sure. But the more of Christ he saw, he began to see himself.  In his references to Christ, he uses the term “PRECIOUS” Having extreme value. Priceless. There can be no price placed on the Foundation Stone, the Rock Of The Ages. Today, be sure that you are building your life, your hope on the Person of Christ.

(B) He is THEIR Stumbling stone.  The world stumbles over the simplicity of Christ. Just as a builder who ordered his material. The material was delivered to the building site. There was one stone that the workers kept tripping over. This stone was not of the right shape, size, color, or style. The workers discarded this stone only to find out that this was the corner stone, The building could not be built without it. And so it is true today. Men still stumble over Him.

3. A PARTICULAR PURPOSE   “That ye should shew forth the praises of Him who hath called you out of darkness into His marvelous light.” Among many other things, He called us to show forth His Praises. I don’t know about you, but as for me, I have a lot of things to Praise Him for. I watched a TV program recently. A little girl, perhaps age 3 was praying, thanking God for her food. She prayed something like this; “Thank you for our food, thank you for our plates, our glasses, our silverware. Thank you for my friends, my family. Thank you for my Mama’s friends, thank you for my Daddy’s friends…”On and on she prayed. She just couldn’t stop thanking God. I feel like that. I just can’t praise Him enough…

(A) We were in darkness. We were born in sin. This world is a place of darkness. “And this is the condemnation that Light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light because their deeds were evil.”(Jn 3:19) “In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. And the light shineth in darkness and the darkness comprehended it not.”(Jn 1:4-5) “But as many as received Him, to them gave He power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on His Name.” Yes, we were born in darkness, and lived in darkness.

(B) We were called out of darkness. What a wonderful time when the Holy Spirit works in the heart of a man or woman, and begins that great work of conviction. We begin to really see ourselves, and to see the Glorious work of Christ in redemption. The light begins to shine..brighter and brighter. Now, through Faith in Him, we walk in the Light as He is in the light.  He called us out of the darkness of sin, of superstition, of self.

(C) We were in darkness, we were called out of darkness, now we are to RESCUE MEN FROM DARKNESS. To show forth His praise is to carry the light of the Gospel of Jesus Christ to the unsaved. The great question before all of us now is, Are we involved in some kind of a program in reaching others for Christ. We are showing forth His praise by our

(a)  LIFE…I do not believe in what is known today as “Lifestyle Evangelism.”  That is, we simply win others to Christ in the way we live. However, we cannot win others to Christ if we do not live like a Christian. We are to show forth His praises in everything we do.

(b) LIPS. We are to go forth (our life) with weeping  bearing precious seed,  We are to be busy telling others (our lips)  about our blessed Lord who called us out of darkness into His marvelous light.

And this is the heart and soul of the WILDERNESS Ministries. This Publication, now 32 years young and reaching into many nations of the world. Along with Tracts, Bibles, Broadcasts, we are trying to reach people where they are with the Light of the Gospel. Will you pray for us? I know that many of you do. We thank you, and thank you for every gift and every kind word of encouragement.
I am happy today to be one of GOD’S PECULAIR PEOPLE.

AND THE WORLD IS A WILDERNESS..It is a dark place. The only real light the world has ever seen was Christ, and then they turned the switch OFF.  Only Faith in the Gospel will turn it ON again.

THINK ABOUT IT…In our first message in this Publication concerning Abraham. It seemed as though Abraham had been saying, “God, show me and I will believe you. However, God was saying, believe me, and I will show you.
He says the same thing today. Trust Him, and let Him show you.

           THANK YOU!

Every day I love to say THANK YOU!  Thanks for every deed, for every act of kindness. And may I say THANK YOU for reading this Tract.
Now, let me share with you some things I want to say THANK YOU to our Lord Jesus…

THANK YOU LORD for caring for men when I was lost in sin

THANK YOU LORD for bearing all of my sin on the Cross. You paid a debt that I could never pay.

THANK YOU LORD for your Great Love for ALL mankind. THANK YOU that you care about the one who is reading this just now.

My dear friend, if the things I have said THANK YOU for are not true in your life, consider these few simple, but eternal truths.

RECOGNIZE your condition before God, that you are a sinner. “For all have sinned and come short of the Glory of God.”

REALIZE that there is nothing you can do about your condition, that Christ alone can save you, if you will trust Him. “For by Grace are ye saved, through faith and that not of yourselves, it is the Gift of God.”

RECEIVE Jesus Christ as your Saviour, TODAY! “But as many as received Him, to them gave He power to become the sons of God, even to them  that believe on His Name” God will hear the cry of your repentant heart. Just tell Him that “In the best way I know how, I now, by faith alone receive Jesus Christ. I accept His Supreme sacrifice on the cross as my only payment for sin. THANK YOU LOR FOR SAVING ME.”

          Begin today to LIVE forever!
