   CAN GOD?

“Yea, they spake against God; they said CAN GOD furnish a table in the wilderness?”(Psa 78:19)

They asked “CAN GOD?” I want to share with you some places in the Scriptures (KJV) where the power, or ability of God was questioned. Today, I want to declare again that I believe in the All Powerful, All Knowing, and Ever Present Living God of the Bible, (KJV). As I write this message, in my limited space, by the time I get to the end, I should have at least 5 points where, in some way, “CAN GOD??”was asked.

1. GOD CAN SAVE ANY SINNER. For each point I make in this message, there are dozens of illustrations in the Bible (KJV). In the following instances, God reached down in Grace and saved someone, who, by all human wisdom, was beyond saving. CAN GOD save

(A) Rahab the harlot of Joshua 2. She heard about the living God, (2:9-10) and hid the Israeli spies. She was saved, and was placed in the earthly lineage of Christ (Mt 1:5). In fact you will find four women in Matthew 1:1-6 who were women of questionable morals, who were saved and placed in the earthly lineage of Christ, all by Grace.

(B) We could mention the thief on the Cross with Christ. The thief asked, “Lord, remember me.” Christ said, “Today shalt thou be with me in paradise.”

(C)  And the maniac of Gadara, Mt 8:28-34, Mk 5:1-20, Lk 8:26-37. Here was a man so demon possessed, so filled with rage and madness, that no man could tame him. He wore no clothes and lived in a graveyard. If he were alive today, man probably would have him in an insane asylum. But Jesus healed him, cast out the demons, and the man was found at the feet of Jesus, clothed and in his right mind. Oh thank God for the Saving Power of Christ.

(D). And we think of the Apostle Paul who was a persecutor of Christians, (1Tim 1:12-13) But he was gloriously saved by Grace on the road to Damascus, (Acts 9:1-17).

(E). And of course, we must mention the woman at the well in John 4:1-39.   “He, (Jesus) must needs go through Samaria.” Jesus was south in Jerusalem, in the land of Judaea, and was going north to the land of Galilee. But the land of Samaria was between the two. Now the Jews hated the Samaritans so bad that when traveling north and south, when they got to the border of Samaria, they would cross the Jordan River,  continue their journey, on the other side, and re-cross the Jordan. In other words, they went miles out of their way just to keep from passing through Samaria. Jesus could have gone north by crossing the Jordan. After all, Samaria was filled with half-breeds, and mis-fits. No Jew would ever want to be found in the presence of a Samaritan. But Jesus came to seek and save the lost, and this woman He met at Jacob?s well was a lost woman. CAN CHRIST SAVE THIS WOMAN? After all, she was an adulteress, she had been married five times, and was living in sin with another man. Jesus offered her Living Water. The woman left her water pots by the well and went into the city and told the men of the city to, “Come, see a Man which told me all things that I ever did, is not this the Christ?” “And many of the Samaritans believed on Him for the saying of the woman.” (v39) Yes, these are just a few of so many many more who were, by human definition, without hope. And you, who are reading this just now, you may have the idea, or someone may have told you that there is no hope for you. NOT SO, Jesus came to save the Lost. You may have gone into deep, horrible sin, but the Grace of God can reach down, lift you up, save your soul, give you a reason for living and hope for the future. Oh thank God for those wonderful words, “Neither do I condemn thee..” No more can God? but ?  It’s GOD CAN.!”

2. GOD CAN SOLVE ANY SITUATION.    Again the Bible (KJV) is filled with examples, situations, problems where the power of God was questioned. Please take a few seconds and read the 78 th Psalm. This Psalm is a review of the Power and Grace of God as He delivers the Jews, and of their rebellion and unbelief. Time after time they faced a problem, and time after time, God solved their problem. They faced the Red Sea with the enemy in pursuit, what a great problem. Moses said, “stand still, and see the Salvation of the Lord.” (Ex 14:13). And the waters parted and the Jews went through on dry ground, but the Egyptians perished in the flowing waters. The Jews had no water to drink, and “He brought streams out of the Rock.”(Ps 78:16)(Ex 15:23).   “And the Children of Israel said would to God that we had died in the land of Egypt, when we sat by the flesh pots, and when we did eat bread to the full, for ye have brought us forth into this wilderness to kill this whole assembly with hunger.” (Ex 16:3). “CAN GOD FURNISH A TABLE IN THE WILDERNESS?” “Can He provide flesh for His people?” (Ps 78:19-20). CAN GOD?  “Though He had commanded the clouds from above, and opened the doors of Heaven. And had rained down manna upon them to eat, and had given them the corn of Heaven. Man did eat angel’s food, He sent them meat to the full.” “The Lord said unto Moses Is the Lord’s hand waxed short?” (Nu 11:23) God gave them water, manna, and quail until it came out of their nostrils (Nu 11:20).   Oh yes, God can. I do not know how some things are calculated, therefore I do not know how much stock to place in some things I read. However, I did read somewhere that in order to feed three million people every day, it would take a mile long freight train of food daily. When I think of the thousands of great Trucks, and trains coming into our city every day, and our city has less than one million, I do not have much trouble in believing the story about the mile long freight train. No more can God?  it’s GOD CAN!

3. GOD CAN SUPPLY IN EVERY SUPPLICATION.  “I exhort therefore, that first of all, SUPPLICATIONS, Prayers, intercessions and giving of thanks be made for all men.” (1Tim 2:1) I know, there are some who question the power of prayer. Time and time again, as we read the Scriptures, (KJV) we see how God answered Prayer. There is a situation in Acts 12, where I believe that the Power of Prayer was questioned, at least by the ones praying in the house of John Mark, (Acts 12:12) In this text, Herod, the Roman Governor, had James murdered. Of course, this pleased many of the Jews who wanted nothing to do with this new “religion” called Christianity. When Herod saw that this pleased the Jews, he had the Apostle Peter imprisoned and posted 100 soldiers to guard him until after Easter. This was during the days of unleavened bread, and had nothing to do with Passover. Passover had ended. The Easter Herod had in mind was the perverted pagan festival of Astarte, or the “queen of heaven” (Jer 44:17-25). This heathen  “love” festival took place late in April. Herod was waiting for this heathen festival, and after the festival, he was going to murder the Apostle peter.

“BUT PRAYER. ” CAN GOD?  “Prayer was made without ceasing of the Church unto God for him.” (Acts 12:5). While they were praying, God was answering. An angel woke up the Apostle Peter, and his chains fell from him. The iron gate that led out of the prison opened of it’s own accord. (God had the automatic door long before man started installing it in public buildings.) The Apostle Peter left the prison and went to the house of John Mark where the prayer meeting was taking place. When Peter knocked, a young girl by the name of Rhoda answered and saw the Apostle Peter there and ran into the prayer meeting and told them that Peter was outside.   “THOU ART MAD” This cannot be. “IT IS HIS ANGEL.” Peter is in prison and awaiting execution. CAN GOD.”  Oh yes, GOD CAN! The power of God was questioned in their reply and remarks to Rhoda. THERE IS NOT A PRAYER THAT HE CANNOT ANSWER! And you may be facing impossible situations today. No more can God?  It’s GOD CAN!

4. GOD CAN SILENCE EVERY SKEPTIC. “Being confident of this very thing that He which hath begun a good work in you WILL PERFORM it until the day of Jesus Christ.” (Ph 1:6)We sing;

“Every Promise in the Book is mine.

 Every chapter verse, every line.

All are blessings of His Love, Divine.

Every Promise in the Book is mine.”

Promises far too many to mention. Let us look at the promise to Abraham. After Abraham finally comes to the place where he believed God, he is saved. (Gen. 15:6, Ro 4:1-6) God establishes the rite of circumcision, changes Abram?s name to Abraham, and Sarai to Sarah, and promises Abraham a son in his old age.  “And I will bless her, and give thee a son also of her, yea I will bless her, and she shall be a mother of nations; kings of people shall be of her.” Then Abraham fell upon his face and laughed, and said in his heart, shall a child be born unto him that is an hundred years old?” And shall Sarah that is ninety years old bear?” (Gen 17:15-17) CAN GOD? NO! This is not possible. “O that Ishmael might live before thee.” I have a son, by the Egyptian Hagar. Surely, this must be what God means.” In genesis 18, the PROMISE is made again, “Sarah, thy wife will have a son.” Of course, Sarah, like her husband did laugh. “IS ANYTHING TOO HARD FOR THE LORD?” (Gen 18:14) And in Genesis 21, the PROMISE was fulfilled to Abraham and Sarah in the birth of their son Isaac. Old and stricken in years, beyond the age of childbearing, and a son is born according to PROMISE. Of course, I did not get in every detail concerning Abraham and God’s PROMISE to him. I believe that we get the basic idea that HE WILL PERFORM HIS PROMISES. Now, if God is Faithful to His Word, and He is, and He kept every promise He made to Abraham, and to Isaac, and to Jacob, and to the sons of Jacob, to the Kings, and to the Prophets, can’t we today understand, and cling to; “FAITHFUL IS HE THAT PROMISED.”

(A)   He PROMISED to SAVE anyone who would believe the Message of the Gospel of Christ; that is, we are sinners, that Christ died on the cross as our substitute, that Christ was buried, and that He arose from the dead on the third day. “But as many as received Him, to them gave He power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on His Name.” (Jn 1:12). You receive Him by telling Him that you receive Him. “Ask, and ye shall receive.” God always hears the cry of the Repentant heart, That’s His PROMISE!

(B) He PROMISED to SEAL and SECURE those He saves. “In whom ye also trusted AFTER ye heard the Word of Truth, the Gospel of your Salvation, in Whom also AFTER ye believed, ye were sealed with that Holy Spirit of PROMISE.”(Eph 1:13).   “Now unto Him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of His Glory with exceeding Joy.”(Jude 24) “Faithful is He that PROMISED.”

(C) He PROMISED His SECOND COMING. “I will come again and receive you unto myself that where I am, there ye may be also.”  (Jn 14:3). He did not tell us the day, or the hour of His coming. He told us that He is coming. We are not to set dates, or look for signs, we are to be ready. He told us not to be upset at the moving of nations, or the growing unbelief in the world. Things like these will happen and worsen as time passes. Men are selling Books, tapes, sermons, magazines, DVD’s, all giving sure signs of His coming. We are not to be deceived by anyone. His coming is on time and in time. We just need to be busy in getting the Good News of the Gospel to the Nations. NO, IT’S NOT, “CAN GOD?”  but  it’s “GOD CAN!”

5. GOD CAN STILL EVERY STORM.  Even nature itself has to bow to the Lordship of Jesus Christ. Crossing the Sea of Galilee one night, they were in a violent storm. The ship was about to sink. Christ was fast asleep on a pillow. “Carest Thou not that we perish?”  “CAN GOD?” asked the Disciples. “Can you do anything Lord?” The Bible says that “He arose and rebuked the wind and sea and said Peace, be still. And there was a great calm.” (Mk 4:35-41). There is so much more, more that I can ever cover.

The message is, GOD CAN.  Every PROMISE He made will be fulfilled to the last jot and tittle. You can serve Him, you can trust Him. He is the Great Saviour, the Chief Shepherd, The Coming King of kings and Lord of lords.

Amen, and Amen.

              CAN GOD?

       By Pastor George Mills

“They said, CAN GOD furnish a table in this wilderness?”(Ps 78:19)

CAN GOD prepare a place to dine,

In this wilderness, so far away?

Then Manna was found, there on the ground,

As He healed their hunger, that day.

No water to drink in this parched land,

CAN GOD cause the clouds to send rain?

A   Rock opened wide, water flowed from inside,

   And water was abundant again.

Is anything too hard for God?

Can He keep His Word as He said?

Each promise is true, each day they renew,

As we follow the path He has led.

A violent storm is all around,

   Our ship is sinking fast.

Do you care for our plight, on this stormy night?

“BE STILL” and sweet peace at last.

CAN GOD hear my voice, each time I pray,

Does He listen to my heart’s cry?

He hears when I pray, He knows what I say,

And He’ll answer each one, by and by.

CAN WINDOWS of Heaven be opened again

And Blessings come down from above?

Is there yet hope for man? Oh yes, GOD CAN,

Send down sweet gifts of His Love.

So let’s follow His lead, He knows every need,

Let us carefully walk by His plan.

And we’ll see every day, His wonders display,

Then it’ s   no longer CAN GOD?   it’s GOD CAN!

THINK ABOUT IT!God has promised that He will not remember sin, cleansed by the Blood.

           WHY PICK ON ME?

I was given to the English speaking people of the world in the year 1611, WHY PICK ON ME?

I have been busy transforming countless millions of lives. WHY PICK ON ME?

The Founding Fathers of America consulted me when they laid the Foundation of this Great Nation. WHY PICK ON ME?

The early Pioneers carried me with them as they carved this nation from the wilderness. WHY PICK ON ME?

If you are saved today, MOST PROBABLY you were led to Christ by the soul winner who used ME to lead you to Christ. WHY PICK ON ME?

I am NOT faulty, old, and frail. I am young, alive, and doing quite well, thank you. In fact, I have never felt better. I have fought off the attacks down through the years. Men have searched me, scorned me, ridiculed me, but they can find NO FAULT IN ME. I am not out-dated. I am free from all error and omission. Oh never mind, go ahead, do your thing, PICK ON ME. I’l l be around for a long time.

<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>

AND THE WORLD IS A WILDERNESS..It is no friend to the Christian. The world attacks your Bible (KJV), it scoffs at It’s promises, and laughs at It’s miracles. It mocks the Christ of the Bible. In the Bible you will find an unfailing Friend, in the world you will not.

  TIMELY TOPICS   for

                             TODAY’S TEENS

THE DRIVER, the DUMPSTER, and DAD

 By Amy Welch

Hello again. I am happy to have this opportunity to share with you some of the things that I have learned about Home, Love of Family, Church, and of course, our Dear Saviour, Jesus Christ.

In my last article for the WILDERNESS I shared with you just a few things about my family. Today, let me tell you about Big Bo, (my Dad) and Little Bo, (my brother). Dad is a large, happy-go-lucky man, full of life and always ready for a laugh. Little Bo is just like him. When these two get together, something funny always happens without them trying to be funny. I will tell you more about my Mom and my little brother ‘Josh’ next time. Anyway, Little Bo wanted to learn how to drive. Bo, (my Dad) will sometimes let Little Bo steer the automobile when he is on a lonely road away from traffic. Well, on the day that Dad decided that he would let little Bo drive all by himself, we loaded the family car and headed for the plant where my Dad works. He drives a big truck for this company. It was Saturday, and the plant was closed, and we had the large parking lot all to ourselves. We emptied the vehicle, set up our lawn chairs, and watched. Dad was busy doing something to the car. “OK Little Bo, there it is. Now drive carefully to the corner of the parking lot, turn left at the next corner, then left again, and back here.” Little Bo proudly got in the vehicle. Nothing happened. Little Bo got back out of the vehicle. “What’s wrong? Dad asked.  “I can’t find the accelerator pedal, or the brake pedal. There’s a piece of wood where they are supposed to be.” “That’s them,?” said dad. “Just push on the block of wood. I made them especially for your test. Your legs are not long enough to reach the pedals, so that block of wood makes the pedal closer to you, and I also have a piece of wood under the pedal so you cannot go too fast..” Little Bo did not like that. “Just suppose some of my friends saw that. They would sure get a good laugh off that.” Little Bo sat on the ground, crossed his legs at his ankles, placed his elbows on his knees, and his chin cupped in his hands. “Get in and drive, or let’s go home,”  said Bo. Little Bo slowly got back up, walked over to the car, got in, and half heartedly cranked up the car, put the car in gear, and would you know it, straight back about twenty feet right into a large metal Trash Dumpster CRASH, BANG, WHAM-MO! I bet you could have heard it a mile. (My Mom almost lost it right there.) “I knew it,” said Little Bo, “It’s this two by four you have clamped on the gas pedal, that’s what’s wrong.” Bo, (my Dad) said, “The problem is, Little Bo, when you put the car in reverse, it usually goes backwards.” “Well, OK, that was my fault. I’m OK so I’ll try again.”   “Not right now,”  said Bo, “We have to call the Police.” “But Dad, Why? It’s just a big ugly metal Trash Dumpster.” That’s  right,”  said Bo, “But that Dumpster is someone’s property, and our vehicle hit it.”  “But Dad.”  “No, Little Bo, it has to be reported.” The Officer came and investigated and saw that there was no damage to the Dumpster, or to the vehicle. Bo explained to the officer what we were doing. “Good luck, Mr. Welch,” said the Officer, “I  will make a note of it in my log.’ Bo, (my Dad) said, “Now, let’s start over again. “Be careful Benjamin, pay attention to your Father.” My Mom said. (Mom will only use our proper name, and never a nic-name). So, now, Little Bo finally gets started. Chug-a-chug, stall, chug-chug, stall, on course off course, chug-chug, and stall. From the sidelines we cheered, “Come on Little Bo, you can do it! You’re doing great, Yea! Yea! Pretty soon Little Bo began to get the hang of it. My Dad just stood there in the middle of the parking lot, watching, shaking his head, and trying to give signals of some kind. Soon Little Bo was doing perfect figure eights in the middle of the parking lot. Dad called for the driving lesson to stop. Little Bo came to a stop. “Yea”we cheered,

You did great!  “You were right, Dad,” said Little Bo, “I could reach the pedals just fine.” Dad fixed the pedals back like they were supposed to be. Now Big Bo began to critique the driving lesson. “First, Little Bo, if your friends saw what we were doing and laughed about it, they are not your friends. Second, it does not matter that the Dumpster was big and ugly, it still belonged to someone else, and any damage we may have caused, we must make right. Third, the Police MUST be called in every vehicle accident, no matter how small. Fourth, Just look at the self respect that you earned when you said, “It was my fault..”We all gathered around in a huddle, and there hugged like we had just won the big game, AND WE HAD! And with a loud “THANK YOU JESUS” we left for home. On our way home, Little Bo sat there proudly by Big Bo. WHAT A DAY! May God Bless your Family as He has Blessed our Family.

                            Love, Amy Welch

IF ONLY I COULD START ALL OVER AGAIN

      By Pastor George Mills

“I have been young, and now am old..”

                 (Psalm 37:25)

Some time ago I had the opportunity to speak to the World Religions Class at Florida Community College, in Jacksonville. I appreciated the opportunity. It is always great to share my Faith and Trust in Christ. Here is a brief outline of the things I had to say to the class.

IF I COULD START ALL OVER AGAIN, First, I sure hope that someone would take time to lead me to Christ at a very early age. I was saved at my 30 th birthday. I got down on my knees and asked Christ to save me. Christ did that. Since that day, I have tried to live right, to be a Christian Gentleman, to be a faithful husband and father. I have been privileged to share the Gospel in Missions, jails, wards, Hospitals, Churches, and Revivals. I have had the privilege of preaching the Gospel on mission fields by way of Missionary Radio with the CHURCH IN THE WILDWOOD BROADCAST which began in 1966. I have been able to write, print, publish, and distribute multiplied thousands of Gospel Tracts. And of Course this Publication, the WILDERNESS now 30 years young. These have been busy years. I say these things in order to bring out this point; LOOK AT THE WASTED YEARS! The best years wasted. If I could start all over again, I would not waste the years of youth.

SECOND. I would seek to find God’s Will for my life. I would want to settle that very early. It was not easy for me to settle on God’s Will. Other things had become very important in my life.

THIRD. I would seek the Spirit Filled Life. I would ask God daily to fill me with His Power for me to do His Will. So many times I have failed because I tried to do things my way, and not through the Power of the Holy Spirit.

FOURTH. I would devote myself to become a student of God’s Word. What a Wonderful Book God has given us. Yet is it so neglected. I would attend a solid, Fundamental Bible College and get as much Bible as I could.

FIFTH. I would find, and refine my talent. I would use it for the Glory and Honor of Christ. Everyone has a talent, an ability. It is unique.

I would go all the way. I would hold nothing back. I would give it my best shot. These are some of the things that I would do, IF I COULD START ALL OVER AGAIN, BUT I CAN’T. I wish that I could, but I can’t. So I’ll do the next best thing. I’ll do these things TODAY. In the best way I can. I’ll try to do God’s Will TODAY. I’ll study God’s Word TODAY. I’ll give Him what I have TODAY. Young person, don’t make the mistakes I made. Don’t have those “Wasted years.” Give your heart and life to Christ, TODAY!

<><><><><><><><><><><><>

The life I have is not my own,

It now belongs to God alone,

‘Tis His to use as He knows best,

His Perfect Will, my only rest.

May others know, may others see,

             Christ alone revealed through me,

My life I give to Him alone,

Who gave for me His only Son.
