Vol. 38, No. 7 July 2014 THE GOSPEL IN THE GATES Nehemiah, Ch. 3

Of course I can take no credit for the idea for this message. This is an old message passed down by preachers from the past. I do not know to whom I could give credit. I enjoyed doing research. I have read a small booklet by Pastor Ed Watke, on this subject, and I believe that I heard radio preacher J. Vernon McGee give a message from this text. I trust that we can study this together and find some wonderful truths for each of us today. As you read the Book of Nehemiah, you see that at the beginning, Nehemiah is in captivity and has been raised to a high position in the king’s court. He is the king’s cupbearer, a position of trust. Nehemiah’s homeland had been ravaged. The city of Jerusalem had been leveled by the Babylonian army. The wall had been torn down, the gates burned with fire, and the beautiful Temple of Solomon had also been destroyed. After 70 years of captivity as prophesied by God, under the leadership of Cyrus of Persia, some of these captives have been allowed to return to their homeland to rebuild. You will find that in the Book of Ezra, ch.1-6. The temple had been rebuilt under the leadership of Zerubbabel. Ezra returned to restore the Law and ceremonies. Nehemiah was still in Shushan, the capitol of Persia when he heard someone say that his homeland walls had not been rebuilt and the land was still in waste. The city of Jerusalem was defenseless from an invading army. This news stirred the heart of Nehemiah and he went to God in prayer for an answer. He weeps, he fasts, he prays about the condition of his homeland. You know, our homeland is somewhat like that. We have seen so many things happen. We have seen the Spiritual and moral decay of our homeland. We should allow these happenings today to touch our hearts as Nehemiah’s heart was touched. Nehemiah asked King Artaxerxes for a leave of absence and permission to return to his homeland to rebuild the walls of the city. The King gives Nehemiah permission to return to his home and he goes to Jerusalem and urges the people there to get busy in the building of the walls. In spite of much opposition from the enemy, and some of the Jews opposing the work, the walls were finished in 52 days. This is quite an accomplishment to say the least. The city of Jerusalem was built with 12 gates. In our text, ten of these gates are mentioned. Let us today, as Nehemiah did help build the gates that have been torn down in these last years. We will see a great truth in the names of each gate. Of course I do not have space in this publication to print so much of the results of the work of Nehemiah. I trust you each one will read the text. In Ch. 3, it is stated four times that this one built “Over against his house.” That’s the starting place. Right there at home! NOW, LET’S SEE THE GOSPEL IN THE GATES.

THE SHEEP GATE, (Neh. 3:1-2) Through this gate, probably the sacrificial animals were led This is to be a constant reminder that “Without the shedding of blood, there is no remission.” The SHEEP GATE pictures for us Christ and His Sacrifice on the cross. We are reminded in Isaiah 53:7 that “He is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb so he openeth not his mouth.” One day John the Baptist pointed to Jesus and said, “Behold the LAMB of God which taketh away the sin of the world.” (Jn. 1:29). This SHEEP GATE is so important that it is mentioned again at the close of Ch.3. “Without the shedding of blood there is no remission.” (Heb. 9:22). Of course the devil hates the Blood of Christ. New versions have omitted “blood” over 40 times. See Colossians 1:14 for a start. Heaven’s Gate; the Blood atonement of Christ MUST be built up in these days!

THE FISH GATE, (v3-5). This is probably where the fishermen entered the city with their catch when they returned from fishing. Fish markets were set up there. We are reminded in the Gospel of Mark 1:17 where Jesus said, “Come ye after me and I will make you to become fishers of men.” After we pass through the SHEEP GATE we are to fish for men. We are to bring men, women, boys and girls to Christ. This is the only hope for the downward trend of this nation. There must be an all out effort in the life of each of us to bring others to Jesus Christ. Now, I cannot be you, and you cannot be me. You are unique. No one else is like you. I am unique, no one else is like me. God made us and gave us abilities. The thing for us to do is to take these God-given abilities, whatever they may be, and use them to fish for men. You can do something no one else can do. Use that for the furtherance of the Gospel. The FISH GATE must be built up again.

THE OLD GATE, (v6). The OLD GATE is a constant reminder that we MUST walk in the OLD PATHS. “Thus saith The Lord, stand ye in the ways, and see, and ask for the OLD PATHS, where is the good way, and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls.” (Jer. 6:16). In these last days we have forsaken the OLD PATHS and have gone for the “new ways” New “bibles” new music, new morals, new methods, a new “Jesus” and another spirit, and have become just like the world and things are just not working. Yes, crowds are being attracted. There is a lot of noise and “rattle” today, but “rattle” does not mean Revival! The OLD GATE speaks of the fundamentals of the faith. When I was a much younger man I would hear preachers say loudly, “I believe in the Inspiration of the Bible.” That has just about vanished from preaching today. They have to refer to dictionaries, to a “Greek Lexicon” or to the “original” when there is none. I believe in the Inspiration of the Bible, (KJB), the Virgin Birth of Christ, His sinless life, His vicarious death on the Cross for our sins, His bodily resurrection from the dead, Heaven for saints, and hell for sinners. We have a tidal wave of false doctrine flowing today because some have forsaken the OLD PATH and are falling for everything that comes down the pike. The Prophet said that in Amos 8:11, “Behold the days come, saith the Lord God that I will send a famine in the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the Lord.” We are there NOW! The OLD GATE must be built up.

THE VALLEY GATE. (v13). The VALLEY GATE reminds us that most of our Christian experience will be spent in the valleys. There are not many mountain top experiences down here. Oh, there are some. I thank God for each one. But most of our experience will be spent in the valley. There is a teaching today that says that “being a Christian is something like winning a “Christian lottery.” No more trials, no more problems, no more temptation, just “name it-and claim it.” You will be rich and a new car in every driveway.” All of this sounds good, but it does not line up with sound Biblical Doctrine. This does not line up with the trials, troubles, and sufferings of Christians in ages past. Let none fall for this “Pie-in-the-sky way.” God has promised to give us His rest and peace and to supply our needs. So, with the promises of God let us learn to be content (Phil 4:11). In the valley, He restores my soul.. The VALLEY GATE must be built up!

THE DUNG GATE,(v14). This is the gate that was used to carry the filth and garbage out of the city. This gate reminds us that as Christians we must rid our lives of so much filth of this world. There needs to be a cleansing of every home. Let’s get rid of the magazines, literature, the influence of TV, the internet, the electronic games our children play. We have left the influence of these things to our children today. Life patterns are formed from horrible influences. May there be a cleansing of homes today. Get rid of habits, entertainment, and our friends must be Christian friends. I know, this is NOT politically correct, but it is Biblically correct! No home is big enough for alcohol, or rock music. Such garbage has to go! We should visit every room in our home and clean house. Visit the clothes closet and get rid of the short dresses and stop trying to keep up with the styles of this world. I guess that we could spend a lot of time at this gate, but I must go on. Just ask yourself, “Is this pleasing to the Lord?” If the answer is no, get rid of it! Today, things are in reverse. This is the gate where so much is brought into the city today. The DUNG GATE must be built up!

THE FOUNTAIN GATE, (v15). Of course the Fountain Gate speaks of the fullness and flow of the Holy Spirit. Jesus said, “If any man thirst, let him come to me and drink. He that believeth on me, as the scripture has said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water. But this He spake of the Spirit…” (Jn. 7:37-39). Jn 4:14). The fullness of the Holy Spirit is ours after we have visited the Dung Gate and put away so much filth. It is true that every believer has the Holy Spirit. He came into our life when we received Christ (Eph. 1:13). Every believer must operate within the power of the Holy Spirit, but the things of the world we love to carry with us, “grieve” and “hinder” the Holy Spirit from operating in our lives. We must ask for His power in our lives daily. Jesus said, “If ye then being evil know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask Him.” There is so much fanaticism about the Holy Spirit today, from one extreme to the other. He, the Holy Spirit is your comforter, your helper, your power. We must seek His fullness in order to do the great tasks before us. Without Him we are powerless. The FOUNTAIN GATE must be built up

THE WATER GATE, (v26). Of course the WATER GATE speaks of the Word of God. See Nehemiah 8:1, Ephesians 5:26, John 3:5, John 15:1-3, Jon 17:17. As I have already said in this message as well as in every message I bring, We MUST return to the BIBLE, (KJB).. This must be our BREAD, our MILK, and our MEAT!. The Bible is at the same time the most popular Book and the most neglected. It has become a “religious relic.” It soars in sales every year but it is not read and put into daily practice. It is not out-dated. It is as new as today. Do you love the Bible? Is it important in your life? Or is it just another book on the table? The Bible contains the mind of God on every subject. Read it to be wise. Of course there are the phoneys on the market. Preachers today are using every new version that comes down the pike. Don’t be mis-led by all all of these new “versions” like N.I.V. ESV, GNT, HCSB, NAB, NJB, NLT, NKJV, RSV, ASV, NASV, NWT, TNIV, AMP, CEV, NCV, NLT, NRS, TEV, TLB PJB, Gender Neutral Bible, many more not mentioned, and many more coming. We should make sure to stop by the DUNG GATE and leave these there. There is nothing wrong with the Bible!(KJB). It does not need “fixing” it fixes us! Notice that there is no repair work at this gate, V26).

THE HORSE GATE, (v28). The horse speaks of warfare, (Rev. 6:1-8, Rev 19:11-16). This reminds us that we are in a battle. “For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.”(Eph.6:12). We are in a battle! In Rev. 19:11-16 we see the Lord Jesus as He returns to earth on a white HORSE and marches through His enemies. The Heavenly armies are with Him and the blood flows as deep as the horses’ bridles. He will destroy His enemies and set up His earthly kingdom and will reign a thousand years, (Rev 20:1-6). Until then, the battle rages The HORSE GATE must be built up! The enemy (Satan) opposes the believer. But we are on the winning side!

THE EAST GATE, (v29). THE EAST GATE speaks of the return of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. Ezekiel saw the Glory of God depart from Israel through the EAST GATE, (Eze. 10;16-22, 11:22-25). The Glory of the Lord will return through the EAST GATE, (Eze. 43:1-5). Of course the EAST GATE faces east, which speaks of the return of Christ. Peter said, “Whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn (east) and the Day Star arise in your hearts.” (2Pet. 1:19). Of course this speaks of His return to earth at the end of the tribulation and Israel sees Their rejected King, repents, and He will set up His kingdom and reign for that thousand years. His coming for the Church could be at any moment of any day. This hope must be built up in our hearts. Build this Gate in your heart. Never lose sight of the fact that any day Christ will return in the air and receive the Born Again ones unto Himself. “Even so, come Lord Jesus!”

THE MIPHKAD GATE, (v31). Miphkad means “an appointed place.” This is the gate where the elders and judges sat and settled the differences of the people. This reminds us that there is an “appointed place” where believers will face the Righteous Judge and will receive every reward that is due, and every wrong will be righted, Some are preaching that the Church must go through the tribulation in order for all wrongs to be corrected, NO! There is an “appointed place called the Judgment seat of Christ, (Ro. 14:10, 2Cor. 5:10) where wrongs are righted and rewards will be given. This will be the believer’s day! We can face that day without fear because the Righteous Judge will do right! Down here, very few things are settled, and rewards are sometimes handed to the undeserving. But there is that APPOINTED PLACE where everything will be forever made right! This APPOINTED PLACE is for believers only. There is an APPOINTED PLACE for every unbeliever. That place is called the Great White Throne Judgment (Rev 20:11-15). That’s where every unbeliever will receive exactly what’s due. The Judge will do right. You can trust that! Now, how about you? You will be at one of these APPOINTED PLACES; The Judgment Seat of Christ for believers, or, the great White throne for unbelievers. You and I will be there, at one or the other. You can doubt it, deny it, not believe it, but you will be there. What you have done with Jesus Christ determines at what APPOINTED PLACE you will appear. Have you Received Christ? Have you trusted His sacrifice on the Cross for your sin? If you have done that, never fear, Christ will freely reward His own for every work. If you have not trusted Him, why not, right now, by faith alone, receive Him? He is there, where you are. The Bible says, “Ask, and ye shall receive.” Ask Him to come into your heart, He will! Then, and only then will you be ready for that Wondrous APPOINTED PLACE. Christians, let us be busy building these gates. Satan has had his heyday. He is deceiving and being deceived. Let us return to the old paths, to the Old Gospel, to the Old Way! <><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>

AND THE WORLD IS A WILDERNESS…It is no friend to the Christian. As the gates were torn down by the enemy, and the world seeks to destroy everything that is Godly and decent. TEEN TALKS THAT MATTER By Ashley Stevens “BLESSED IS THE NATION WHOSE GOD IS THE LORD” With the Independence Day Holiday fast approaching I wanted to write about the importance of God in our nation. Psalm 33:12 says; “Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord..” The importance of God in the founding of our nation is evident in our founding documents. The Declaration Of Independence has several mentions of the importance of God. A few of the quotes include, “We hold these truths to be self-evident that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their creator with certain unalienable rights,” and, “For the support of this Declaration, with a firm reliance on the protection of Divine Providence.” The Declaration Of Independence is not the only document that makes reference to God in the founding of our nation. His Name can be seen on many of the original documents and on the monuments and memorials that pay tribute to the most influential individuals of this country, from founding times to this present day. Unfortunately in today’s society the mere mention of the name of God is a source of controversy. Everywhere you look there is an attempt to take God out of this country. There are groups and individuals who want the Ten Commandments removed from the courthouse. They want prayer banned in school and at public events. Where God was once prevalent in this country, He has been removed and kicked out. When tragedy strikes there is an attempt to blame God or ask,” where was God when this happened?” Well, He was no longer wanted in our lives. During this Holiday time, take time to reflect on the importance of God in this country. Ask Him to come into our homes, schools, churches, and public places. It is critical not to go along with the tide of having God removed from this country if we want to be blessed as a people. This is not a new idea. It has been handled and stored with great care. I watched a documentary where the Constitution and Declaration of Independence were carefully reframed and stored in a controlled environment. These documents are written on animal skins, and the INK IS FADING. In fact the writings are barely visible. While these documents are old and fading, what they declare should never fade. We have history to prove to us that God honors the people who honor Him. We have history to prove the fact that “The wicked shall be turned into hell and all the nations that forget God.” (Psalm 9:17). America, take caution. “In God we trust” Our motto has been,

Is this still true today As it was back then,

When our founding fathers knelt down to pray,

And boldly proclaimed That God is our stay?

Is God still our trust As was down through the ages?

While “In God we Trust” Is sorely denied?

This nation has stood For many decades,

But we ask as the ink, Of the Constitution fades,

Can we long endure, Without help from above,

From the One who has showered

This nation with His Love?

“In God we Trust,” Our motto has been,

May this truth be imbedded,

In the heart of all men.

And may it be said, By this generation,

That “In God we Trust”

Is still the motto of this Nation”

How long can we stand,

When the ink fades away,

The words of our motto

Barely visible today? Let each one renew,

Our allegiance and say, “ In God we trust,”

before the INK FADES AWAY!


ANSWERS TO QUESTIONS… I trust that I can answer some questions with these comments.. As the forsaking of the Bible (KJB) and the accepting of the flood of new “versions” has opened a floodgate of false doctrines, so the forsaking of the old Hymn Book has opened the the way for the flood of blasphemous “music,” or “christian rock.” This is being heralded as a dramatic breakthrough in religion. The thing that troubles me most is that this is coming like a flood into “Fundamental” groups today. There has to be an awakening as to which direction many are going today. In fact, some are heading in different directions at the same time! As for me, since the beginning, I have stood for THE BOOK, (KJB) THE BLOOD, and THE BLESSED HOPE. That’s where I have been, where I am now, and where I will be when Christ calls me home. <><><><><><><><><> Question; “How long is the Great Tribulation? Is it three and one half years, or is it seven years? When does it start?” Answer…The Tribulation period is the seventieth week of the prophecy of Daniel, (Dan. 9:24-27). After the rapture of the Church, and the rise of the Antichrist, he, (the antichrist) will sign a seven year peace covenant with Israel. The seventy “weeks” are “weeks of years.” Seventy weeks equal 490 years. 483 of those years, or, 69 of those weeks were fulfilled at the crucifixion and resurrection of our Saviour, leaving one remaining week to be fulfilled. There is quite a gap between the 69th and 70th week, (about 2000 years.) Anyway, the antichrist will sign that seven year, (one week) peace covenant. That event will signal the beginning of the 70th week. This is the beginning of the Tribulation period. As you study Daniel 9 you will see that the antichrist breaks that covenant with Israel in the middle of that week when he breaks that covenant and enters the temple and identifies himself as God, (2Thess.2:1-13, Mt 24:15-25). This seven year period known as the tribulation is divided into two equal parts. The first three and one half years are peaceful, as the antichrist rises to power. He seems to the world at that time to have the answers to the world needs. Then, in the middle of the seventieth year, the antichrist breaks his covenant and the Great Tribulation begins. This will be three and one half years of trouble such as never was or ever will be. At the end of the seven year period, Christ will return to earth with the armies from Heaven and defeats the antichrist and His armies and Christ will then reign 1000 years where there will be peace on this earth. (Rev 19:11-21). Now, that is only a brief view of that time in the future. Question…”Where will the Church be at that time?” Answer. The Church, the Born again ones who have trusted Christ alone will be called to Heaven BEFORE the tribulation period begins. The tribulation period is a time of judgment. The Church has already been judged. He (Christ) bore all of our judgment on His Cross. There will be a Judgment Seat for believers, (not for sin, but for rewards). Heaven is our Home. We have already bowed to our Christ. We will be home when this period takes place, See 1Thess. 4:13-5:9). Question…”Who is the antichrist?” Answer. “I do not know, nor does anyone know. I am not interested in trying to identify him. If someone says he, or she, knows who the antichrist is, he, or she is showing his, or her ignorance..” Question…”Is Israel back in her homeland to stay at this time?” Answer…”This is something we can only guess. God said to Israel, I will scatter you among the nations, but I will bring you back into the land. (See Isa. 43:1-28). The gathering of Israel in her homeland is encouraging, but this does not appear to be what God promised. This is only a shadow of the great in-gathering to come. Today, what is happening there is man’s doings. Man gets together and debates what Israel can and cannot do. Man decides for Israel today. But God said “I will bring you back.” What man does falls short of what God will do when He calls Israel home. Perhaps the preaching of the Gospel of the KINGDOM is what brings ALL of Israel home. <><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>

“One of the greatest blows that Jesus Christ, the Son of God ever had below the belt was this RSV that some of the fundamentalists who want to be classified as scholars are saluting. The devil went as far as he could in that translation to soften up this generation for another translation later on to pull off something else. Just continue to stick by the KJBible. Stand by it. Read it. There is nothing wrong with it. The King James Translation is, after all, the best translation we ever had. You do not have to be a scholar, you do not have to be a great authority on languages. You do not have to be a literary genius.” Dr. Bob Jones, Sr. 1955 (Here’s trusting that this generation of professors there will turn to this truth of their founder.). <><><><><><><><><><><><><><> “If the foundations be destroyed, what can the righteous do.? (Psa. 11:3). Answer: “He that is righteous let him be righteous still.”(Rev 22:11).
